Certified Translation of a Police Clearance Certificate

A police clearance certificate, confirming that there is no criminal record, is required in applications for work visas, for immigration, for adoption and for work with children abroad. When the foreign authority asks for the certificate in English with notarial certification, the translation is made from the document issued to you.

When a certified translation of a police clearance certificate is needed

  • A work visa or a long-stay visa.
  • Immigration and citizenship procedures.
  • Adoption abroad.
  • Work in education or care abroad.

Validity of the document

Many authorities accept a police clearance certificate only if it was issued within a short period before it is submitted. It is therefore worth coordinating the date on which you obtain the certificate with the date of the translation, so that the document does not expire before it is submitted.

Apostille

The certificate itself and the notarial certificate follow separate apostille routes. The apostille page explains which apostille is issued where, and in what order.

How it works

  1. Send the document

Send a scan or a clear photograph by WhatsApp or email, and receive a quote based on the word count.

  2. We translate and check the names

The translation must be faithful to the original document, and it is important to check the spelling of names against the passports, so that it matches the other documents.

  3. The notary certifies and signs

The notarial certificate is signed and bound together with the copy of the document and the translation.

  4. Apostille, if required

If the destination country is party to the Hague Convention, an apostille is added where required (please confirm this with the body requesting the document).

What it costs

The translation fee is based on the number of words in the translation, under the notarial tariff fixed by regulation, and it is the same at every notary in Israel. For an exact calculation by word count, see the certified translation fee calculator, and for the full tariff, the fees page.

The office translates from Hebrew into English and from English into Hebrew.

Questions and answers

The certificate was issued in English. Do I still need a translation?

If the certificate is in English, a translation is usually unnecessary. If the authority asks for a certified copy, a certified true copy is sufficient.

How long does it take?

A single document is usually ready within one business day, sometimes on the same day. If an apostille is required on the notarial certificate, it is obtained at the court, usually within one business day, by courier.

Need an apostille?

It depends on the destination country. In countries party to the Hague Convention, usually yes. It is best to confirm this with the body requesting the certificate.
